Infection Prevention & Control of Covid-19 in Uganda
Projekt start: January 2021
Projekt duration: 1 year
Projekt location: Uganda (nationwide)
Objective:
Implementing a nationwide training program for healthcare workers in Covid-19 infection prevention and control (IPC).
Project:
As part of this project, together with our partner ECCUganda and the Ugandan Ministry of Health, two medical professionals from each district in Uganda are educated to become Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) trainers. These specialists can now conduct courses and train further healthcare workers in their respective districts. Through a Train-the-Trainer concept, we are able to support each district in Uganda in improving healthcare worker safety and in curbing the spread of SARS-CoV-2. The goal is to train a total of 268 participants, who will then go on to pass on their knowledge on infection prevention and control to local medical professionals in their respective district.
Main Activities
- January 2021: Conducting a two-day workshop with representatives from the Ministry of Health Uganda and other stakeholders to streamline the activities to the national Covid-19 strategy and establish a context-appropriate curriculum.
- February 2021: Locally procuring training material and recruiting suitable instructors for the train-the-trainer courses.
- April 2021: Conducting a series of three-day train-the-trainer courses, to train at least two representatives from each district.
- June 2021: Supporting the new trainers in conducting the trainings in their respective districts through supplying training material and providing guidance.
- Ongoing: Monitoring the activities in the districts through collecting training reports and supporting the district trainers via digital communication.
Funding
The project is funded by the Covid-19 special tender of the clinic partnerships initiative. This funding opportunity was established as a response to the outbreak of the Sars-Cov-2 virus as part of Germany's commitment to development cooperation.
