Training for Aid Workers

A growing number of Europeans are willing to contribute their skills and knowledge in low- and middle-income countries. Whether responding to disasters, humanitarian emergencies or participating in development activities, aid workers are often faced with challenging situations in difficult and sometimes hazardous operating environments.

We want to make sure that aid workers have the skills they need to work safely and effectively while abroad. We’re therefore developing a growing portfolio of courses designed for preparing staff for their mission or assignment. As an institute for emergency medical education, most of our courses will focus on the clinical and medical aspects of working in a humanitarian or disaster context. Aid workers from other backgrounds are also welcome.

Planned courses:

  • Courses for Emergency Medical Teams (EMT)

    • Clinical adaptation for Emergency Medical Teams
    • Triage and mass casualty incidents for Emergency Medical Teams
    • Infectious diseases and vector control
    • Public health context during disasters
